The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Nkem Okeke exchanging greetings with the  Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the Trader's Cup, Rev. Fr. Obinna Dike during half time

The Onitsha Main Market has retained her cup after emerging as the winner of the 2017 Gov. Obiano Traders Cup at Godwin Achebe Stadium, Fegge Onitsha where the grand finale of the cup saw Onitsha Main Market lifting the cup again after defeating the New Market Spare Parts, Nnewi, with a penalty shootout after the regular time that brought the two teams to equal.
At the first half, Onitsha Main Market scored her first score around the 15 minutes of the game and later, during the second half, New Market Parts, Nnewi, scored a goal equalizing the team to 1-1.  The penalty shootout saw Nnewi Boys scoring only two against Onitsha team thereby bringing the total score to 5-3. The wining team marched home with one million naira prize and a trophy while the second, third and fourth, took 500,000, 300,000 and 100,000 respectively.
Prizes were also given to the Most Valuable Player( Echezona Nwobodo from Main Market, Onitsha); Best Goal keeper (Emmanuel Uzoigwe from New Market Spare Parts, Nnewi), Highest Goal Scorer (Uzochukwu Ifejiofor) with 20,000 each while the Best Behaved Team (Millennium Merchant and Importers Association) went home with 100,000

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, kicked off the tournament during the half time. Dr. Okeke reeled out some of the achievements of the Anambra State Government and encouraged the Traders to keep on with the spirit of sportsmanship While presenting the award, the Commissioner for Sports, Uju Nworgu said that the tournament was aimed at reuniting communities in Anambra through the market world and to create an avenue for recreation and relaxation among traders. She commended the Anambra state government, for their administrative commitment to the development of sports in Anambra state. She listed some of the ways these sporting activities has attracted the state to National and International competition and world recognition.

New Market Spare Parts, Nnewi
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of South East Amalgamated Traders Association, AMATAS, Chief Okwudili Ezenwanko, thanked the Anambra State Government for their flawless victory in the 2017 gubernatorial election. He appealed to the governor to increase prizes of the first, second and third position to N2.5 million, 1.5 Million and 1 million respectively in subsequent competitions.
It would be recalled that the competition kicked off with 36 markets which produced Amalgamated Tyre Dealers Association of Belgium Market (ATDAB), Nkpor to the third place after kicking out Nkpor Main Market to the fourth place.

On 14th December, 2017, the official presentation of the cash to the awarding teams was done at the Ministry of Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development by the Commissioner, Barr. Uju Nworgu in the presence of the Local Organizing Committee members during which the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the Trader's Cup, Rev. Fr. Obinna Dike, thanked all the teams for their support and comportment during the period of the tournament. In a special way, Fr. Dike, applauded the State Government and the Commissioner for Sports, for their persistent efforts in uplifting sports and reuniting the Traders. He thanked his executive members for their immense succor to him and their commitment to their duties.
