Obiano applauds the Main Organizing Committee (MOC) Members for the Traders cup.
The 2017 and 2nd edition of Gov. Obiano Traders Cup kicked off on 14th July, 2017 with a glamorous opening ceremony at Godwin Achebe Stadium, Fegge, Onitsha. The competition, powered and sponsored by the state governor of Anambra state, Gov. Willie Obiano started with opening match played between ETAWA Market Ekwulobia and Marine Market Onitsha.
Transitional Chairmen (TC) of the 21 LGA of Anambra state and APGA supporters as well as the representatives of the 62 registered markets under their amalgamated union AMATAS were present. Well wishers as well filled the stadium in honour and support for the governor. The traders thrilled their guest and spectators with their parades and display.

The governor thanked all the TC Chairmen, APGA members and especially Anambra traders for their massive support . He commended the traders for their unity and assured them of a rewarding competition. He appreciated the efforts of the commissioners, committee members and old Rangers team who were present to grace the event.
The Anambra State Commissioner for Youth Enterpreunership and Sports Development Hon. Barr. Uju Nworgu, welcomed the governor and other dignitaries who came to the event. She said that the traders' cup was a platform to bring traders together for health, sports and recreation purposes.
Also, the chairman of AMATAS in Anambra, South East and South South, Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo ,added that the traders' cup will help build a health business network and lasting relationship through the spirit of unity football brings. He commended the governor on security, road, borehole facilities and projects worth millions he has contributed to traders. Chief Ezenwankwo popularly known as Ewepedike, said the Anambra traders had adopted Gov Obiano as their choice for the November election. He said that was the reason they had the inscription on their jerseys for the competition “WORKING WILLIE, TRADERS CHOICE”.

In his remarks, the chairman of the trader's cup committee, Rev. Fr. Coach Obinna Dike, said that the 2017 edition of the Traders' cup was different in all aspects due to elaborate planning, transparency of Sports Commissioner, Permanent Secretary, their team and the Organizing Committee which he heads. He commended Gov Obiano for recognizing the role of sports as recreation for an integral development of the human person.
The competition which is on a knock out basis has 36 teams taking part. ETAWA Ekwulobia eliminated Marine Modern Market Onitsha 5-4 on penalties after the regular duration ended 1-1 apiece.
