The second season of the Anambra Independent Football League (AIFL) is set to kick off on Friday, October 20 at the Neros Stadium Nanka at 1pm. This is consequent upon the draws for the league which held at the Fides Communications Auditorium Okpuno on the occasion of the general meeting of the AIFL Wednesday October 4, 2017. All Stars FC of Ezira (Ozimba) in Orumba South will lock horns with Morning Star Football Academy of Onitsha in the opening encounter.
The draws anchored by the Chairman of the Referees” Committee of the League Rev Fr Christian Umeojilinnaka pitched the 14 participating teams taking part in the second season as against the 10 teams of the inaugural season. The participating teams include: Nwaudo FC of Okija(champions of the inaugural edition), DOSAD Football Academy of Enugwu-Ukwu Awka Diocese, Golden Child FA of Eziowelle, Graceland FC of Awgbu, Samba FC of Amansea, Morning Star FA of Onitsha, Unique Stars of Awka Anglican Communion, Terich FC of Onitsha and Mourinho FC of Onitsha. Others are Udalla FC of Okpuno, Garden of Praise World Football Academy (GP World FA) Egbo Nnewi, Rangels FA of Achina, All Stars FC (Ozimba ) of Ezira and Ozalla FC of Onitsha.
Addressing the teams, the Chairman of the AIFL, Rev Fr Coach Obinna Dike charged the teams to thrill Anambrarians with quality Friday football. He welcomed the new teams and praised them for scaling the tough procedures to join the exalted league. The league is expected to run from October to May 2018.
