Obi Dr. Gibson Nwosu (Ezeuzu)
The people of Awka, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, have thrown their weight behind their traditional ruler, Obi Dr. Gibson Nwosu (Ezeuzu), and the President General of the community, Engr. Tony Okechukwu, just as they warned impostors and troublemakers against disrupting the peace in the town and state.
They stated this during the Izu Awka General Assembly Meeting held at Umuoramma Village square, Awka.
The meeting which attracted Awka youths, Ndi Ozo, Ndi Ichie, the traditional ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu, among others, was an opportunity for the people of the community to deliberate and clarify some salient issues confronting the community.
Speaking at the meeting, the President General of Awka, Engineer Tony Okechukwu, noted that the meeting was called to give clarifications on the ongoing confusion in the community.
Chief Okechukwu maintained that the traditional ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu, remained the only legal and authorised traditional ruler of the community and called on the people not to be perturbed by the activities of those he described as troublemakers in the community.
The President General lauded the Obiano administration for its giant strides, especially in Awka, and appealed to the Governor to rescue some of the Awka inner roads.
The traditional ruler of Awka, Obi Gibson Nwosu, in his speech, appreciated the people of Awka for coming out en-masse for the meeting and urged them to always hold in high esteem, all cultures, traditions and values of the town.
Speaker after speaker at the meeting condemned the activities and the alarming impunity at which some members of the community caused anarchy and chaos and assured the traditional ruler and their President-General of their total and unalloyed support at all times.
Those who attended the assembly included, the oldest Ozo title holder, Ozo James Eze (Ozo Ivfe); Ozo Okey Obuorah (Secretary, Ozo Agulu-Awka Society); Ozo Chief Dr. Emmanuel Chukwudi Muodozie (Ozo Change) and Prof. A.U Nnonyelu, among others.
At the end of the meeting, the community adopted eight resolutions they said, were binding on every Awka citizen.
The resolutions are as follows: That Obi Gibson Nwosu and Engr. Tony Okechukwu were the authentic and recognized traditional ruler and president general of the community respectively. That the community still recognised the late Anagor Eke as the Otochal-Awka until another was chosen and also that it was the duty of the ADUN to nominate a new Otochal.
They also resolved that the dust to dust rite would remain according to one's faith. That the day to day administrative functions of Awka town was the prerogative of ADUN and not that of the Ozo group. That there was nothing like a regent in Awka, and that the PG, according to law, Anambra State Government and Awka Constitution, only recognized Engr. Tony Okechukwu. That Awka Community endorsed Governor Willie Obiano's second term ambition, and that Awka thanked the ADUN leadership for the gigantic secretariat they were building for the community.
