The Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Dr Willie Mmaduaburochukwu Obiano has donated a N2M cheque to a 32 years old M.SC holder in Biochemistry and a classroom teacher at a private secondary school in Ekwulobia, Miss Ukamaka Irene Unegbu for her urgent kidney transplant.
Miss Unegbu, a native of Achina in Aguata L.G.A of Anambra State a graduate of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Uli, was diagnosed of kidney failure at the Anambra State University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka on January 19, 2017.
Due to financial constraint, Unegbu and her family could not afford the urgent kidney transplant that was recommended for her, if she must survive as well as the two sessions of kidney dialysis while she waited for the transplant.
She however sent a passionate financial assistance appeal letter to the Transition Committee Chairman of Aguata L.G.A, Hon Ezeibe. The Council boss called the attention of Governor Willie Obiano to the said letter, and the N2M was donated to the patient.
Presenting the Two Million Naira (N2M) Zenith Bank Cheque to the beneficiary at Aguata Council headquarters, Aguata on September 6, 2017, the Transition Committee (TC) Chairman of Aguata, Hon Eche Ezeibe, who thanked God for the grace of philanthropy and charity which He blessed Gov Obiano with, enjoined the family to use the money for its purpose.
Ezeibe, who appreciated the governor for the prompt response he gave to Unegbu's appeal, extolled Obiano for his large heart, the consistent help he gave to the needy as well as the many developments in areas of security, agriculture and community development, among others his administration recorded in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, the immediate past Executive Chairman of Aguata L.G. Council, Hon Chukwuma Umeoji, commended both the state and local governments for their care and attention to the needy.
Umeoji, who prayed for God's divine healing on the kidney patient, solicited for more supports from the people of Aguata to Gov Obiano for stable democracy dividends in the communities.
In their various speeches, the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA) of Aguata, Lady Eugenia Odika and the APGA Chairman of Aguata, Hon. Obiora C.J. Ezechukwu, lauded Gov Obiano for his prompt assistance which gave succor to the ailing young lady. They called for prayers for the divine and quick recovery of Irene Unegbu to enable her continue with her teaching vocation.
On his part, the uncle to Miss Unegbu, Nze Edwin Okoye thanked the APGA –led government of Gov Obiano for the financial assistance to his niece and family. Okoye, who assured that the money would be properly used for Ukamaka Unegbu's treatment, commended the governor for his attention to the needy.
