The Catholic bishop of Awka, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, baptizes little Miss Onwumelu at the Retreat and Pastoral Centre, Okpuno, Awka South LGA.
After two months of her birth, the lovely daughter of Mr Abuchi Onwumelu of Fides who is also the Press Secretary to the Catholic bishop of Awka, Most Rev Paulinus of Ezeokafor, was on 23rd August, 2017, dedicated to God at the Chapel of Good Shepherd, Retreat and Pastoral Centre, Okpuno.
The daughter, little Miss Mary Kendra Chimbusomma, who was born on 25th June, 2017, was dedicated to God in the presence of friends, families, and well-wishers.
In his homily when he led in the Concelebrated Holy Mass, Bishop Ezeokafor thanked God for his gift of life and also thanked God for the rare gift of their daughter and prayed God to protect her and also sustain the parents.
Bishop Ezeokafor, who described children as gifts from God, who should be given proper attention, charged parents to always monitor the activities of their children, even as he urged parents to support their children in whatever vocation they chose.
The bishop admonished parents who always forced their children to take up their preferred vocation, saying that the children had the right to make their own decisions.

The Catholic prelate enjoined Mr & Mrs Onwumelu to bring up their children in the way of God, noting that when they grew they would not depart from it. He charged the parents to always look out for their children, noting that some parents left their children to the mercy of maids due to their day to day activities and no longer performed their duties as parents.
He urged parents to make their children their first priority before anything, adding that some children went astray due to the carelessness of the parents. This is even as he advised them to always create time for their children in order to know their weaknesses.
Earlier, Bishop Ezeokafor commended Onwumelu on his zeal and dedication towards journalism and his efforts in seeking for news, saying that during the Ozubulu tragedy, he made efforts to know the cause of the problem. He advised him to remain hard working and always ensure that he upheld the truth.
Also the Secretary to the Bishop, Rev Fr. Michael Monwe, commended Onwumelu for his efforts and selfless dedication to his work, saying that he had known him for a long time as a very hard working person.
He charged him to be more dedicated to his job and always stand for the truth which he described as the most important thing in journalism.
