Royal League Friends Club,Nigeria,has presented a cheque of one point five million naira to the management of St. Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha, to off-set hospital bills of more than twelve patients who could not foot their bills.
Sir Jude Mbaegbu, President of the club ,said the gesture was part of their humanitarian service to uplift health by reaching out to the less privileged to offer assistance to patients who are handicapped.
Sir Jude noted that Borromew Hospital was one of the hospitals that had specialist doctors who offered the best of treatments to patients and called on people to always patronize them rather than travelling away to access medical care.
He urged the hospital management to utilize the fund judiciously as well as improve on their facilities and personnel.
Responding, the Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Reverend Father Dr.Izunna Okonkwo, appreciated the Royal League Club who deemed it fit to put smiles on the faces of the patients in spite of the hard times. Rev. Fr. Izunna said the mission of the hospital is to provide quality ,affordable and accessible health care services to the people in line with Archbishop Val Okeke's vision on health and biblical quotation that they may have life and have it in abundance.
Addressing the benefactors,Sir Jude advised them to always live in peace with their families and neighbours and as well be obedient to constituted authority.
Some of the patients, including Maduabuchi Egwuatu, Chiamaka Obinna and Amalachukwu Okeke who burst into tears of joy thanked the donors for wiping away their tears and prayed GOD to reward them.
Highlights included official handover of the cheque to Rev. Fr. Izunna Okonkwo, assisted by his deputy,Rev fr.Augustine Nweke.
