Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor
The Catholic bishop of Awka Diocese, His Lordship Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, has condoled with the Nnewi Catholic Diocese and his counterpart, Bishop Hilary Odili Okeke, over what he termed the senseless killing of innocent worshippers at St. Philip's Catholic Church Umuezekwe Ofufe, Amakwa, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State in the early hours of Sunday, 6th August, 2017, by unknown gunmen.
Bishop Ezeokafor who gave out his condolence message shortly after the sad news filtered in at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Neni, in Anaocha Council Area, described the incident as unfortunate and regrettable. This is even as he wondered why people derived much joy in taking lives.
'What on earth could make someone to start taking lives which they cannot reproduce? People no longer have regard for human lives. People killing people as if they are chicken. I am seriously saddened by this ugly development. The worst part of it is that the dastardly act was perpetrated in a place of worship, the house of God,' he said.
Bishop Ezeokafor while condoling with the Nnewi Catholic faithful, called on security agencies to unravel the mystery behind the incident and bring to book the perpetrators of the crime, even as he prayed God to grant those who lost their lives eternal rest
