The Rotary Club of Awka will be donating a forty-foot container load of books to Kenneth Dike Library, Awka, in an effort to boost the reading culture among the youths. This gesture was part of activities to mark the inauguration of the Rotary International District 9124, Awka, as well as the installation of Mr Emman Ude Akpeh as the District Governor for 2017-2018.
Addressing newsmen last Thursday at Geo-Gold Hotel, Awka, the District Governor, Rotary International, Awka, Mr Emman Ude Akpeh, said the donation to Kenneth Dike Library was in appreciation of the contributions of the late icon to education, as well as an attempt to encourage the reading culture in the youths.
He said their gesture was in line with Rotary Club's philosophy of rendering service to humanity.
He enumerated part of that service which the District had embarked upon to include sponsorship of polio eradication and free open heart surgery done twice a year for children, and donation of Mammographic machine to Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, among others.
He also said the club was involved in planting of trees to help recreate the eco-system.
Ude Akpeh enjoined the press to join Rotary International in providing selfless service to humanity, even as he urged all people of goodwill to join Rotary International.
The inauguration of Awka District and installation of the District Governor took place on Saturday, July 15.
