The special adviser to the Anambra State Governor on Political Matters, Mr Chinedu Obidigwe, has reportedly landed in police net following an allegation of threat to the life of a prominent legislator in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Obinna Emenaka, representing Anambra East State Constituency.
According to a reliable Fides source, Obidigwe was invited by the police last Thursday following a report to the police by the legislator to explain his alleged role in the invasion of privacy and disappearance of the legislator's driver.
According to sources, the legislator's driver disappeared shortly after he was discovered to have been on the payroll of Obidigwe and had been relaying information on happenings in the legislator's home to Obidigwe; a development confessed to by the driver himself and recorded by the legislator.
After the driver was confronted and his phones confiscated, leading to the discovery, the driver had confessed and pleaded for forgiveness. But later same day, after the legislator had gone out, the driver had disappeared. However, he was later reported to be staying in the house of Obidigwe.
Fides further gathered that Obidigwe's action may have been informed by his invitation to the state assembly on allegations of gross misconduct which included unlawful use of siren, intimidation of perceived opponents and breach of public peace.
Fides also gathered that the governor's aide was in the habit of attacking the personality of the legislator since after he was summoned at the instigation of the legislator to the house of assembly where he later apologized for his public misconduct.
Efforts to reach the police image maker in the state failed as she failed to pick her calls. When the police commissioner was contacted, he said he was out of town and could not confirm the incident, even as he promised to get the PRO to call back.
Hon Obidigwe could not also respond to calls and a text message as at press time.
However, when contacted, Hon Emenaka confirmed the story and allegations.
