CG-IPOB, Not against Election

The Customary Government of IPOB, CG-IPOB, has okayed the participation of its members in the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State. This was contained in a press statement signed by its Director, Directorate of Information, Ndubuisi Anaenugwu, which was made available to Fides.
It however made it clear that only the party which had agenda for Biafra would get its support ahead of the guber poll.
CG-IPOB said it had decided to give the clarification against the backdrop of controversies surrounding the Anambra poll, on whether it would hold or not.
While noting that it had a subsisting legal matter on  the issue of self-determination with suit no FHC/OW/CS/192/2013 at Federal High Court, Owerri, which it stated, was known by the public and the Nigerian Government, CG-IPOB advised Biafrans still living in Nigeria who believed in CG-IPOB's methodology to restore Biafra, to feel free to actively participate in the economic and political activities in Nigeria as citizens.
It said that it had met many times with the leadership of the Supreme Council of Elders to review the group's participation in the Anambra State gubernatorial election and that It had been agreed that any political party that shared the same ideology with CG-IPOB would be supported during the election in line with CG-IPOB's political methodology.
'CG-IPOB believes that Biafrans should elect good men and women into positions of political positions, even as we are still in Nigeria,' the group stated.
It disclosed that it was led by Rtd Justice Eze Ozobu and Dr Dozie Ikedife, with administrative officers under an administrator, Engr Anthony Aniebue.
'CG-IPOB has a well packaged and defined methodology to restore Biafra through legal, diplomatic and political means,' it stated.
On the issue of referendum, the group which, described referendum as a political process which took rigorous stages and processes, said it had activated what it called hydra-headed strategies to secure the support of powerful nations.
'CG-IPOB believes that Nnamdi Kanu has not violated any known law by directing his followers under his command to boycott Anambra State 18 Nov election by sitting at home. Perhaps, that could be his own approach to draw the attention of the international community. 'However, CG-IPOB is worried that such directive to his followers might lead to an assumption that IPOB is representing the interest of all the pro-Biafra agitators. This could be misleading, as some overzealous agitators might start using threat to enforce compliance or obstruct the legitimate activities of those who are not in agreement with the name, Biafra, or separating from Nigeria.
'We must never in any way or form, whether through body language, action or utterances, give the impression that Biafra represents war or violence. We must prove to even the blind that we are a governable and peaceful people. We must convince all the parties that Biafra is our indigenous identity and that the ideology of Biafra is freedom, equity, fairness and justice.
It further noted that there was nothing wrong with electing one of their own to put Biafra's ideology to work, even before the restoration of Biafra.
It urged its members to explore what it called the democratic window to deepen their collective desire for an indigenous identity which was Biafra through town hall engagements.
'CG-IPOB shall continue to pursue the restoration of Biafra via local and international laws as nobody kills an ideology,' the group concluded in the press statement.
