The immediate past governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has commended the Nigerian Judiciary for being among the best in the world. Obi spoke during the public presentation of the book entitled: “Save our Constitutional Democracy from Emasculation”, written by Prof. Ben Nwabueze at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Conference Centre, Abuja.
Obi who recalled how he became governor in Anambra State through the courts, came back from impeachment, as well as secured the tenure interpretation that led to the staggering of elections in the country, said that those interventions renewed his faith in the judiciary in Nigeria, especially when, between him and his God, he knew he did not know the Judges before any of the cases was decided in his favour.
Obi who maintained that judiciary remained the last hope for the common man, commended Prof. Ben Nwabuze for his contributions towards the growth of Nigeria by his previous membership of constitution drafting committees; former Minister of Education; a university don; membership of many respected social cultural groups; as well as his contributions 'towards the demolition of the empire of ignorance through books that are intellectually stimulating,' Obi said.
The chairman of the event, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, said there were many things about Prof. Nwabuze that were worthy of emulation.
He noted that even in his old age he was still consumed by what was good for Nigeria as shown by his most recent book.
In his own response, Prof Nwabueze thanked all those that graced the occasion. He urged Nigerians to always have the progress and development of the country at heart.
He took the opportunity to thank Nigerians for their love and concern for him and particularly thanked former Governor Peter Obi for finding out time to visit him now and then in his house.
Many dignitaries attended the event, such as the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu; Deputy Senate President, Hon. Ike Ekweremadu, represented by Sen. Obi; Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, among others.
