In order to enhance peaceful coexistence and forestall a breakdown of law and order between herdsmen and the host community in Umumbo Town in Ayamelum LGA of Anambra State, the Anambra State Police Command last Wednesday, summoned a stakeholders' meeting between the community leaders and representatives of the Fulani herdsmen.
Addressing the stakeholders, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Garba Baba Umar, assured them of adequate protection, even as he urged both parties to familiarize themselves better and have regular meetings in order to enhance harmonious relationships amongst them.
The meeting, according to the State Commissioner of Police, was to nip in the bud, an alleged rumour of threat to public peace in the area.
For his part, the IGWE of Omumba Town, HRH Igwe S. Ichidubem (JP), used the opportunity to commend the Commissioner of Police for supporting Governor Willie Obianio in making the state the safest in the country.
Responding, the representatives of Fulani herdsmen, assured that there was no existing feud between them and the host community in the area and that they were living peacefully without any hindrance.
Participants at the meeting included, HRH Igwe S. Ichidubem (JP); Igwe Omumbo; Chief Hon. Onoura Joseph; Hon Okafor Anthony; Morah Joseph. O and Chief Anumuda Nabeife.
Others include Gidado Siddiki (Sarkin Fulani); Aduka Abdullahi Likita; Alhaji Mohammed Buhari; Muhammad Idriss and Nyiwa Hussaini.
