The management of Madonna Girls' Secondary School, Umunze has presented awards of excellence to some students in recognition of their exceptional conduct and performance in the 2017 academic session.
The awards of excellence which came in form of money and gift items, were given to exemplary students and a member of staff during the school's Annual Feast and Parents' Day Celebration held on February 24, 2018.
Presenting the trophies, the School Manager, Rev. Fr. Paul Onyebuchi, commended the winners for their exceptional behaviour which made it possible for them to be singled out by the school management. He said that the awards would encourage others and inspire them to become more dedicated in their assigned duties.
Fr. Onyebuchi was assisted in the presentation of the awards by the chairman of the occasion, Arc. Mrs. Nkechi Maduka, and Rev. Fr. Longinus Egbeonu, the sponsor of the trophy, for the best student in the Igbo Language won by Miriam Mbanise.
The trophy for the best behaved student was given to Felicitas Okalla. Miriam Mbanisi was appreciated for leading in Chemistry, Physics and as the best academic student of the year.
The best academic student of the year, Miriam Mbanisi, who also took first position in Chemistry and Physics, was also presented with a silver medal, certificate and a plaque for participating in Olympiad Chemistry Quiz by the Anambra League and Chemical Society of Nigeria, respectively.
The trophy for the best student in Mathematics and Essay Writing went to Isaac Emmanuel, while Isaac Jacintha, a sister to Emmanuel, Isaac also came first in essay writing for the junior category. Frances Onwe was recognized with a trophy for the most duty conscious student, while the trophy for the best student in Geography was given to Esther Sunday Onyekwe.
Juliet Nwigwe was recognized as the neatest student and the trophy for the candidate with the best WASSCE result was given to Paschaline Anekwe.
The award for the champions in house quiz competition and neatest dormitory champion went to Sacred Heart House and Hostel Room 6 respectively.
The management also presented a token to all the students in their various classes.
The school, during the feast day, held exhibition of products produced by her students and appealed to the parents to purchase some of the displayed products.
The displayed products include foot wear, slippers, neck beats, washing soap, among others.
