In a bid to promote healthy competition and to discover hidden talents among students, a Quiz competition was organized by the Education Department of the Catholic Diocese of Awka at St John of God Secondary School Awka, Awka South L.G.A of Anambra State on the 27th February 2018, for all the Diocesan owned secondary Schools.
The Quiz competition which was attended by 23 diocesan mission schools, which were grouped in two, which were the senior and the junior categories were, Bubendoff Memorial Grammar school Adazi-Nnukwu, Loretto Special Science School Adazi-Nnukwu,St Anthony Comp Secondary School Agulu, Divine Mercy Collage Adazi-Enu, St Augustine Secondary School Adazi representing Adazi Region. Immaculate Conception Int'l Secondary School Umuchukwu, Madonna girls Umunze, Fr Tansi Memorial Secondary School, Akpu representing Akpu Region. Msgr Maduka Memorial Secondary Ekwulobia, Austica memorial Secondary School Nnanka, Holy Family Secondary School Igboukwu, Immaculate Heart Secondary School Uga, Daughter of Mary Mother of Mercy Ndiowu, representing Ekwulobia Region. Tansi Int'l College Awka, Rosary College Nise, St Michael's Secondary School Nimo, St Lucy Int'l School Ifite Awka, representing Awka Region. The trophies were finally lifted by Immaculate Conception in the senior categories with 75points followed by Tansi College with 70points and St Lucy Int'l School Ifite Awka with 65points while Madonna girls came first in the Junior categories with 75points.
In a chat with Fides, the co-coordinator of the Quiz competition Rev Fr Madubike stated that the annual quiz competition was to bring out the hidden talents among students to enable them face any challenges they would face in the future. He said that the purpose of organizing the competition was to enable the pupils to be bold and not shy away when it comes to speaking in public and to harness future superstars that would represent the country, both at the National and international levels.
On his part, the secretary Akpu region, Rev Fr Andrew Emenike said that the quiz competition offers the students opportunity to express their understanding of the teaching and learning activities. He maintained that the inter school competition helped students to compete with students from other schools to know who understood better, the content of the curriculum. He added that the quiz competition enabled the students to build self confidence in themselves, saying it offered them the opportunity to interact with students from other schools. He stated that the quiz competition help the students evaluate themselves in comparism with students from other school adding that it also and helped them in the education sector to evaluate the performance of their school with regards to teaches' performance.
