Over the week there has been a terrifying rumor, all over the internet about an imminent increase in the school fees of many Nigerian universities including OAU (19, 700 to 57, 700) UNILAG (14,500 to 63, 500), Benson Idahosa (284, 300 to 1, 150, 000), UNIZIK (20,100 to 65, 920) among others. The reason as stated by the 'broadcasters' was due to the ongoing recession in the country. This has gone on to spread panic among students aspirants and parents who have their wards schooling in the affected universities. However, when contacted by our reporter, the chief public relations officer of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, was quick to debunk the news as fake and untrue. In his words, “We have not and we will not increase the school fees”. After they will be asking why people drown themselves and commit suicide. Why on earth did a certain homo sapiens in a certain place cook up this fake news? In this recession? Why did a certain child of certain parents take the pains of gathering the school fees of almost all the top universities in Nigeria just to cause unnecessary panic, and probably generate some cheap traffic for his/her blog. And this pesin wan go heaven abi? There is God o!.
